The Subaru BRZ is winning! Literally! Racing driver of the Subaru BRZ GT300 race car, Tetsuya Yamano won Round 2 of the Gymkhana Championship in Japan. Yamano competed on Sunday in a tuned 2013 Subaru BRZ by Exedy, suspension, LSD and Bridgestone RE-11 tires are just a few of the modifications. The day consisted of two runs, Yamano ranked 1st after run number one in the dry, but had plans on doing better. “The BRZ was faster at mixed corners, taking advantage of its low centre of gravity. On the other hand, it found it difficult at stop-and-go places. I’ll do my best for the second run too” says Yamano. In run number two he would do better, 0.38 seconds faster, and it was in wet conditions! At the end of the day Yamano placed 1st, bettering the second place Honda Civic by 0.46 seconds. Other competition included three Nissan Zs, three Honda Civics, a Toyota 86 who placed 5th and another Subaru BRZ who placed 9th. Yamano feels that the Subaru BRZ is well suited “on this course, there were many corners with lateral G force to turn on. And I’ve been always good at braking using ABS. Everything went well including the weather. I think this is the first win for the 86 and BRZ together in the world in an official race. I’m very happy to be the first to enjoy a win.”
