Re: Mobile Audio: BRZ, FR-S, GT86

Thanks for the info, that's helpful! I love good tight clean bass so I was planning on building a good sealed enclosure because I was told that its the best for creating that kind of bass. What's the difference from these IB enclosures and a sealed enclosure like I was planning? I was also thinking about completely removing the back seats in the BRZ so the subwoofer enclosure can sit right where that opening is. Use some nice plexi-glass and have a nice clean set up.

Do you know why people keep trying to talk me out of using the two 8" subs for one 10"? I keep thinking that two would be better for a clean tight bass set up and I would be able to save weight over 10". I guess I've been away too long, but I don't need or want a ton of bass. I've actually been really pleased with the stock 8" sub we had in our Toyota Tacoma and it wasn't that great.

**Afghan Vet, from one soldier to another, welcome! Glad to see other soldier's on here. There are a ton on NASIOC where I still spend a lot of time.

Thanks Nero, I really appreciate the shout out to fellow soldiers. It is very cool, as I type this, my wife is cutting out articles from newspapers that she collected while I was oversees ('04-'05)....very interesting to read some of the headlines from that time.

'Good, tight, clean bass' = sealed enclosure......and IB. I'm very wary of trying to explain the way things sound - all kinds of ways to get sniped. What really impressed me the first few times I heard a car with an IB set up was the articulation of the bass - the strike of a kick drum when playing rock, and the 'naturalness' of the bass because you are not hearing the influence of a box.

Now, with all of that being said....most of the great cars I have heard has had sealed enclosures. I think in this small car, and if you are not a huge bass head (low throbbing bass), two 8's in a sealed box could be brilliant. Concerning weight - depends on the woofers you are considering. A friend of mine has just put out a new 8" sub that was 23 pounds (without the box). Properly set up, you would probably be happy with either two 8's or one 10. I'm going to add a few pics right here with plexi (I like your idea of taking out the seats and getting a clean sub / amp set up).

My friend Ally's car (she likes her bass to pound - 15" Accoustic Alegance IB with a plexi baffle)

Your friends M5 is almost exactly what I was thinking about doing. Take out the back seats and build the box with two 8's right into the opening. The only difference is that I was thinking about placing a mirror on the bottom of the box sop when you look through the plexi-glass it looks like there are 4 instead of 2. Then I would mount the amp either on top of the box or in front depending on if the strut tower bar would get in the way. Looks like an awesome set up though.

I really like the sound of what you have planned. I hate that it will be a while until I can see that set up in your car Just for fun, here is a pic of that 8"

Probably not right for your application, but a couple of these would certainly not be weak sauce.

That is one insane 8", it reminds me of the JL Audio 8W7 which weight something like 17 pounds a piece. I'm going to go with two 8W3's and I think it will give me just what I want in a sealed enclosure. It's all going to built around the performance first. Like I said, I've got to get the strut tower bar in first and have them build the box around that, but I would like it to sit right over the rear axles so the weight will give me a little more traction. Just used to AWD.

Great improvement - everything is tucked away, can put stuff on top of it if needed. Love the Hertz Mille Sub!

Great plan - I think you will have great results going that way.

How do you guys like the Hertz Subs? I've heard good things about their component set ups and my local shop recommended them for my build, but still suggested JL Audio for my subs. Just wanted some feedback from someone first hand.

Thanks for the reply! Are they super expensive or priced like the JL Audio line up?
