The BRZ at the LA Auto show was an STi concept car and the aftermarket has also heard that challenge but how many people will be willing to dump their warranty for 500 HP of RWD goodness...lookout Lexus cause here we come.![]()

How about a CARB legal turbo kit? Lol!

I think that CARB legal, jumbo shrimp and semi-truck driver, are some of my favorite oxymoron's but in today's market, where so many cars are turboed (check out the twin turboed V6 w/ red and blue light bar in your rear view mirror) it may be closer than we think...but even if it got past CARB I doubt it will pass Subaru...but it sure will pass most other cars on the street.

Outside of a select FEW who have specialized racing applications, like drifting, anyone who wants a 500 whp BRZ is an inexperienced, uninformed dreamer.
No one is going to argue that SOME more horsepower, say up to fifty, wouldn't be welcomed by most everyone. But even that amount extra would change the BRZ driving experience. But 300, 400, 500 horsepower in a 2800lb car??
Based on what I've seen at autocross events as well as road courses, the Corvetter is a very hard car to drive well, going off-course backwards or spinning regularly. And, the more powerful that Corvette is the harder it is to drive. With the way RWD works, a lot of horsepower almost guarantees you will wreck, sooner or later, if you use the power.
I'll venture a guess here that such a product will never come from Subaru, or Toyota. Any turboed BRZs will come with small motors and small turbos, making power tailored for the platform's driving experience.
There is no value in much more horsepower than the BRZ already has for its driving experience.
Oh, were you talking factory high hp turbo BRZ? I was thinking aftermarket lol. Too much factory hp on a tiny car would be crazy. I know a few inexperienced people who've wrecked Z06's within 1st week of purchase. It's good to slowly learn your car.

Turbo sounds cool, but not for me either. I want intake, exhaust and tune. However much HP more that gives me, will be perfect. I think it will be cool to have no turbo lag and a great N/A experience.

I am sure we have all heard of RWD problems in inexperienced hands and many of us have also experienced the saving grace of AWD for the same situations but there are a few that can control that monster out the back and my hat is off to them. Give me the BRZ 500 lbs lighter and I am in nirvana...did someone say Elise?![]()
That's why I love drifting is because they're controlling extremely high HP lightweight cars while sideways.
A lightweight BRZ would be a top auto-x platform!

um I dont think anyone mentioned the 12.5:1 compression ratio here.... Turbo "kit" good to about 8 PSi and will require a crazy tune to kick back high end timing. we do not know what the stock rods are good to either

12.5:1 compression will be an issue. We will have to wait and see what Crawford and other companies have in store.
