What size will you get and how much do they weigh...what do they weigh/size on your racer?
I've been thinking about the Enkei Raijin. It's basically a BBS rip off, but I really don't want to shell out $600/wheel for the BBS.
Don't fool yourself with the idea you are saving money, get the lightest/strongest wheel you can afford. Everyday it will save you money on gas and make you smile when you see the wheel that you want on your car, but MOST important is that it is lighter than the stock wheel. The Enkei racing series wheels are about as cheap and light and strong as there is...My RPF1's are 16 lbs each 17X7.5 and less than $200 each. Remember, without a turbo the weight of the wheel will be very meaningful... for acceleration, deceleration and of course turning...YMMV
That is real exciting news but a little confusing...I have a set of TE37's that are 15X7.5 and they weigh 8.6 lbs and my other set of TE37's that are 17X7.5 weigh 15 lbs. The Volks are forged Aluminum and the Kosei's are cast aluminum. I checked several sites and none are giving weights anymore...where did you get the weight for the 17X7 K4R? I may be buying another new set of wheels.
OMG...when I originally looked at the TR site under Kosei it didn't give the weights but when you look for a car specific wheel it does and states 14 lbs as you said. Having sold "pressure cast" machines for alloy casting for several years (if you need one I can get you a quality 2500psi unit for a mere $1.5 million) I do have a little knowledge of the difference's in cast wheels but still find it difficult to believe that ANY cast wheel will be lighter than a high quality forged wheel. That being said, that "if" they really are 14lbs as stated, I think you have found the "DEAL OF THE DECADE and hope all that care about this sort of thing go down to where ever they buy their wheels and get a set of the K4R's (but have them powder coated instead of the paint that is on them)!!!That is what Forums like this are all about!!!
We're fortunate with the BRZ in that it is relatively light and there's less kinetic energy on cornering, thus a light wheel has less risk. I have seen heavy (>3600#) cars with light wheels and always thought about failure when stuffing it into a turn on trackdays. I may be needlessly worried, but I come at this from a racetrack/sticky tire perspective.
I think the problem arises when the "sticky" tire and light weight wheel meet an immovable object...a curb. Luckily they are only on the streets...don't curb your racing![]()
