What oil will you be running?

The BRZ manual for oil changes specifies on pg. 412

    "Engine oil selection
Always use SUBARU approved engine oil. For details, we recom-mend that you contact your SUBARU dealer.
If approved engine oil is unavailable, another motor oil of matchingquality can also be used.

Oil grade: ILSAC multigrade engine oil

    Recommended viscosity: SAE 0W-20"

What brand of oil will you be running?

Also, synthetic blend, full synthetic or conventional motor oil?

When will you do your first oil change?

I will change the filter within 100 miles and maybe again not long after (see Isle of Man posts). The oil will stay till I inspect the contents of the filter and may even have it analyzed (about $15-$20). I am a person that uses engine oil that is too expensive but leaves it there longer than the factory usually recommends...what do they recommend. At a minimum 0W-20 Royal Purple full synthetic, but still looking.

The BRZ is a bit different than the past N/A and turbo Subarus we are used to. But, our experience leads us to recommend Rotella T-6 5w40 for starters as it is by far the most popular synthetic oil used at our shop. Motul is the second most requested.

Oil Consumption and the BRZ D-S4 Boxer

After nearly 2,800 miles of mixed driving, I was surprised to discover that I used one full quart of 0w-20 synthetic motor oil in my 2013 BRZ. I understand that this new, naturally aspirated boxer engine runs at a relatively high 12.5:1 compression ratio, and that the stock oil is a very lightweight 0w-20, but even so, I was surprised by the engine’s consumption. I did heed the owner’s manual recommendation of “driving nicely” and not exceeding 4,000 RPM during the first 1,000 miles and further realize that during the break-in period on some engines, oil consumption can be higher while the rings seat, and so on, but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with their D-S4 Boxer?

    Thanks,

    Cobra Joe

P.S. After doing a lot of research I've decided to use the stock Subaru 0w20 full synthetic, at least for the first change or until more data is available on the subject.

I just sold my 98 Nissan 240SX with 461000 miles on the odometer using Mobil 1 oil, so I will just keep on using Mobil 1.Name: IMG_1922.jpg
