Alternate Front Plate Mount

Many people cringe at drilling a front bumper to add a legally mandated license plate. The tow eye solution is one fix, but is $$. Here is my $8 approach (I fab'd a fancy custom one but then did this for the masses).

Parts:

2 ea Stanley 7/8X4 right angle brackets (reformed to sharper angle)
1 lot SS hardware

Requires 2 holes on bottom of "bumper" that can be plugged and be essentially unseen if plate is removed.

Do you have a backing plate on the plastic bumper for those high speed runs... also, what about turning the arms up instead of down to cover less of the grill opening and more of the plastic bumper? Nice option though. I am impressed with the speed you got that "plate". My state would take weeks and I would take months to put it on...especially with a "new" model car. My plate will look like our default Avatar for this forum for as long as I can. One thing with the tow hook option, which I will try to copy on my own, you can angle it away from the front of the car so its not a good target for rebounding Ladar, on the remote chance I would accidently venture past the posted speed limit

I have stick-on rubber feet on the back of the plate. Yes, you could have the plate higher by bending the arms different. The weather here is seldom > 85 so I think I'll have enough cooling, and I think it looks better in that location with the more equal black surround. I have had that plate for years and since I seldom speed where xxDAR is an issue, I'm not worried on that count.

Yeah, but what if one of the "masses" makes one and takes it to track day, overheats and...jus joking with ya. I am just one of those guys that cringe

Thoughts on blocking the grill...

- we should assume that the OEM engineering that opening to handle Radiator and AC cooling needs
- when you are going for max performance, you'd want the AC off anyway
- when I've gone to the track in the past, I've always take for front plate off anyway
- if you are at elevated MPH, you can probably block more of the grill off for aero benefit and still not overhear (see NASCAR cars)

- when I've gone to the track in the past, I've always take for front plate off anyway...do you think there were ever OEM studies of cars w/ plates on?

mount stayed secure on my 800 mile trip.

I have converted this to a magnetic mount. Steel plate on bottom of bumper, almost invisible. I made a lightweight aluminum bracket for plate with magnets. Easy on and off.
