TRD Supercharger?

Turns out there's a very good chance Toyota will be releasing a TRD Supercharger for the FR-S/86. Rumors say it might add somewhere from 20-30 HP. Sounds great to me!

Questions:

Is there any reason we can't use a TRD Supercharger on the BRZ (they're the same engine, right)?

I've heard HKS is also working on a SC--best to wait on aftermarket? Or go with TRD as it should have been well tested?

HKS does not sell products in the USA. They left in January. So, dont hold your breath for HKS. TRD should fit. But, rumor has it, Subaru has a turbo model already prepped in Japan. Supposedly using Subarus direct injection (not Toyotas) and it is already making almost 300hp (mounted in a Legacy).

Humm. Question than is, how much is it going to cost to put Subaru's turbo in, if it will fit into 1st gen BRZs at all? The TRD might end up being cheaper, and I don't really need 300 hp. I'm going to turn for around, 250ish HP.

With a 12.5:1 CR, how much boost can be added? I'll bet not much...........

It sure can't be done cheaply, yet. The more I read and hear it seems the balance of the car is easily upset, so watch closely what you do. The more adjustable it is the more individually satisfactory it will be. If you change one area you will have to make improvements everywhere. What areas can we work on; tires, brakes, suspension, drive line, engine and then break that down to many areas...maybe it is best to leave it alone. NOT!!! I have a carbon fiber drive shaft coming in two weeks and no car???? I will put some TE37's on that I have laying around, that are 1/2 in wider than stock and probably some 225/45-17's. I see an intake and exhaust change in my future and several pounds of stiffening. What suspension has compression and rebound adaptability? Is it true that Subaru already has an awd turbo, 2.5l in the works???

I have heard several companies have Turbo kits in the works, but compression ratio will probably have to be changed.

It won't be cheap, but 300hp and 500hp are definitely possible!

Cooling is the big problem with the compression ratio so a BIG intercooler with a CO2 interface, a water/methanol injection system with a 10 gallon tank and of course a fuel tank full of C116 or even adapt the whole system to alcohol...leave the driver out for proper weight balance

I wish there was more info on the developments for forced injection, but all good things take time . . . I'm not after huge numbers. After mods and tuning I'm hoping for 250 hp, and if forced injection allows for around 300 hp, than all the more fun. Yet 250 hp with a light body sounds fine by me. I just want to try and make sure I remove weight as I add it; especially in the front end.

Our one guarantee: lots of options to come for the BRZ/FR-S/86 platform.

Upsetting the balance that Subaru engineered into the car is a major sticking point so far. We have heard issues with steering rack (after lowering and wider tires) and more. It will take some time to get the car sorted out properly. Concerns that too much power will make the car handle poorly is real. Out of the box the car has enough power to be a ton of fun in the twisties, but not leave your life flashing before your eyes.
